Sherando Lake

We stayed a few days at Sherando Lake Recreation Area, which is a National Forest campground just 2 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is my site next to the babbling brook.
These butterflies found a yummy spot next to the water.
The area has two lakes…the smaller one behind this dam.
 Wild strawberry blossoms and buttercups.
 Spring wildflowers are everywhere.
Looking back toward the campground from the top of the dam. Sites have electricity and are $15 with the America the Beautiful Pass.
 The small lake.
The waters are stocked with trout.
 Dogwoods are blooming.

We took a day trip up on the Blue Ridge to the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center.
 Azaleas blooming
We somehow missed all the music on the Blue Ridge this trip….maybe it's too soon.
Old farmstead with dogwood trees blooming.

 Busy bees
Trillium were in bloom, dotting the forest floor.

Sherando Lake at the campground is a great place to kayak. Nice calm waters.
I let Nan try out my Hornbeck Boat.
We are now planning a side trip to the Adirondacks where they are made.

 Wild azaleas
 Turtles
 Hairy Woodpecker

 A loon was fishing.

I was using Nan's Advanced Elements Inflatable kayak….it may soon be for sale?
 Many robins in the campground.
